The Lost Art...

Today I wanna pay homage to a lost art, the grimy, the gritty, the in yo face, damn near spittin on ya forehead rap battles. I know you may of seen 8 mile, or you may have watched the less than phenomenal ‘Fight Club’ on MTV, but that aint where its at.  The real work gets put in in the back alleys and clubs near you.
Since this hip=hop thing began back in the 80s all ya favorite MCs been proving themselves in somebody’s cipher. I mean, you had Kool Moe Dee vs Busy Bee, LL Cool J vs Cannibus, Tupac vs Biggie and most recently Nas vs Jay-Z. These are some of the more mainstream battles but where entertaining nonetheless. You gotta appreciate these for the mere fact that these were the hottest entertainers in the game at the time.  These battles caught national attention, and in the case of Tupac and Big, stirred up a riff that eventually brought about the untimely death of both of the two rappers.
My self personally Im more so entertained and drawn to the battles of unsigned hype, the dogs that hungry, scrapping and scraping they way through the underground so the street give them the title.  Most people see rappers as mindless dudes just wasting time yapping, but if you pay attention Im pretty sure you’d be surprised at the lyrical prowess of some of these young brothers. And its not just in the lyrics its also in the delivery. If son got a fire delivery he gonna walk away a winner every time because he’s got ya ear. Add in a little bit of pop culture and you might have what it takes to come out of it with a nice piece of pocket change, and more than a little bit of respect.
Im bout to showcase three of my favorite battles featuring the boy E. Ness vs Hollowman. My son Serious Jones vs Murda Mook, and the boy Cassidy when he was young and hungry choppin up Freeway. Let’s go….

E.Ness vs Hollowman

Serius Jones vs. Murda Mook
